Daisy Puppy - Step by Step
Meet Daisy! She is the very first puppy/dog cake created by UFO (ultimate fondant originals).
Daisy is a Keeshond puppy (found nearly exclusively on the east coast, the "live" Daisy was flown to the northwest and arrived the same hour as the cake did, in Portland, Oregon. As in all cakes, everything is edible, the food dishes are candy melts, water is piping gel, food is fondant, "milk" bone, gift tag, and Daisy's tag, all gum paste and painted with edible petal dust.

Gretsch Drum Cake
So I thought, how hard could a drum cake be? It's round. Well, this is the first attempt and I now know what NOT to do. It's a nice cake, but not the extreme beautiful perfect drum cake I had imagined in my head. This was for Brett's birthday and he currently has a Gretsch drum set (I did love my logo!) Once he moves on to a Ludwig, or who knows what, I will have a reason to make another drum that will be perfecto!

Birdhouse Sanctuary
This is the long awaited rustic birdhouse birthday bash cake done for STAR MEDICAL. The cake was (we ate it already) orange-tangerine citrus with lemon filling. For you bird lovers, a goldfinch (gum paste & fondant) sits in its nest on a perch. As in a "real" birdhouse, the roof has staples, split logs on the side, moss, & wood slats and woodgrain texture to boot. I could not find a suitable woodgrain mold so I made one myself, thank you fimo dough. I didn't have my photographer handy (Catherine is awake when I sleep & visa versa) . I probably did not do the cake justice with these pics, but others took some too.
If you're wondering the signage on the birdhouse reads , it is "STAR on Shady Lane," which is where STAR MEDICAL is located. It was a great birthday party with some friends we don't get to see every day. The cake was divine. I tried to get the birthday girl to go "Ozzy" on us and bite off the head of the bird, but she would ot. She took it home instead. Alas, some other day. I welcome any comments you might have. I hope by some standards you will think it is "Duff-a-liscious!"

Sushi Me This
This may look like sushi, but it's not! It is a birthday cake! Chocolate marble cake, with French buttercream, and fondant. I was challenged by a friend to make a "sushi" cake for her husband's birthday cake surprise. Everything, except the plate, is edible (no seafood or vegetables were harmed), including the "wasabi" and "chopsticks" (I hand-painted authentic Chinese "letters" with food coloring on fondant chopsticks).
My plan is to add at least one new cake a month (time permitting) and hopefully open a cake bakery in the next year or two. If you have a need for a "far-out" cake and you're in Oregon (or near the Wash. border), the mothership is waiting for your request...
